WHAT IS somatic experiencing?

Whether your trauma symptoms have emerged from a singular traumatic event or from a lifetime of “micro-traumas,” Somatic Experiencing (SE™) offers a framework to assess where you are “stuck” in the fight, flight, or freeze responses. SE™ is a body-oriented therapeutic model that will guide you through a process of noticing and processing the sensations and impulses in your body that are connected to your memories and stories.

Slowly, safely, and gently, you will begin to complete the physiological processes that are stuck in your body. You will discharge the pent-up energy from prolonged freeze and thwarted fight/flight episodes. With time, this will culminate in a dramatic reduction and potential alleviation of your trauma symptoms.

sessions

SE™ sessions may begin on a chair, couch, massage table, or yoga mat— depending on your preference. I may also invite you to stand, move, and work with exercise balls or other props, as indicated by your session needs at any given time.

During our sessions, I will support you in slowing down considerably so as to really notice the nuances of your sensory experience and allow your body’s process to unfold at its own pace.

Weekly sessions may be 60 or 90 minutes long, depending on your goals and needs.

Working with Robin is helping me to connect to my body without judgment, release trauma stored deep within, and regulate my nervous system.

I leave each Somatic Experiencing session feeling much more at ease and peaceful. Moreover, Robin teaches techniques that can be used outside of our sessions to help me as I navigate through turbulent times. Robin is warm, open-hearted, and knowledgeable - working with her has been a gift!
